We Can Help Put the Focus Back on Your Vision

Eye exams play a crucial role in maintaining proper eye health and vision. We are passionate about keeping your visual system in tip-top shape.

We will conduct a balanced and meticulous assessment of your eyes, running various tests for common eye conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration.

The Canadian Association of Optometry recommends that adults under 40 have their eyes checked at least every 2 to 3 years, and adults aged 40 and older have an exam bi-annually. Eye exams are minimally invasive and shouldn’t take longer than 90 minutes, so having your eyes checked annually if possible is the best way to stay on top of your eye health.

If you currently have an eye disease, live with diabetes, or have high blood pressure, you should ensure you are undergoing eye exams yearly. Additionally, a family history of eye disease should be discussed so we can monitor for early signs and symptoms of disease.

Avoiding excessive UV exposure and following proper ocular nutrition guidelines is paramount to protecting your vision.

We develop a greater risk for eye disease as we age, which makes annual eye exams even more important. After age 65, patients may notice their vision deteriorating and have difficulty seeing in poorly lit environments.

Presbyopia may begin to affect our eyes in our 30s and 40s, but it can significantly worsen with time and age.

What Happens During an Exam?

We perform thorough examinations of your eyes while aiming to keep you no longer than 90 minutes for routine tests. We will discuss your medical history, including any family history of disease and current medications, before performing any assessments.

We will examine your corrective eyewear, if you wear any, and take note of your current prescription. We will then see if you need an updated prescription with the use of a Snellen chart and phoropter. Each exam also includes Optical coherence tomography, retinal imaging (fundus photography), pachymetry, and intraocular pressure testing.

Further tests involve assessing your peripheral vision and eye movement, intraocular pressure, retina, and optic nerve. If any irregularities are discovered, we may recommend additional testing.
